Dono still doesn’t know how he ended up in comms, but we’re glad he did.
After starting in policy work for the Government (he holds a Masters in Public Health), Dono then moved to what he then called “spin doctoring” in and around parliament.
A move back home to Christchurch saw him continue in communications - championing trades training and working for the Christchurch City Council and Canterbury District Health Board.
He has now been in the communications game for nearly 20 years and there’s not a problem that Dono can’t solve.
As well as being a cool calm head in a time of crisis, Donovan has exceptional political knowledge and connections (he can write you a private member’s bill in minutes) and is an awesome strategic thinker.
He is also pretty good at coaching his kid’s soccer team!
Anna is a legend who brings to the team a mixture of communications know-how and specialist expertise which is hard to find.
She is currently working as part of the All Right? campaign, which the Great Scott team has been working on since the campaign’s post-quake inception.
Anna is also working with the Cure Kids Kākano project designing an app to help parents support their children’s big emotions as well as facilitating the Incredible Years Parenting Programme (IYP) for the Ministry of Education.
She has worked in the past for SKIP (Strategies for Kids Information for Parents) for the Ministry of Social Development and Core Education. She specialises in child development and parenting and writes content on such for Sparklers (schools wellbeing resource) and All Right? parenting.
Jo is Great Scott’s lead ideas person and the one in the office who makes us all the laugh most. Most importantly, she is fervent in her goal to just do good work for good people.
Jo brings to the team more than 20 years working in Canterbury in a variety of communications roles.
Her background is in radio journalism and she’s worked for Radio New Zealand, Newstalk ZB and Australia’s ABC.
Some of her awards hang on the wall….radio awards from New Zealand and New York and honours from the Public Relations Institute of New Zealand.
She brings energy and enthusiasm not just to the office but to any project and the people involved in it.
Jo is a committed and community minded Cantabrian. She teaches at the New Zealand Broadcasting School and has held numerous community roles.
She is currently on the board of the Christ Church Cathedral Reinstatement Trust and is a member of the International Association of Business Communicators and Public Relations Institute of NZ.
Emily is happiest when armed with a notebook, iPhone and DSLR. She is Great Scott’s Corporate Storyteller.
Emily grew up reading The Press over her Mum’s shoulder at breakfast time so she knew pretty early on in life that story-telling was going to be her thing.
During her time as a journalist for Stuff, she covered everything from homelessness to immigration woes, ventured to Myanmar to work as a reporter and honed in on the people and places at the heart of Canterbury and afar.
Emily has a way with words. She weaves beautiful stories, writes killer content and give her an iPhone and she’ll make some pretty vicious videos. We love her and our clients do to.
Emily will never turn down the opportunity for coffee, brunch or a hill walk and Christchurch is very much home. While she tried to escape earlier in the year, a ruptured ACL put a stop to that plan… so she reckons it’s safer to stay a little while longer.
Jo jokes that she brought Pip on board to get stuff done. Well, it might not be that much of a joke…
Pip is motivated by providing creative and practical solutions for clients. She thinks in the big picture but can drill that down to the smallest of tasks required to put a good comms plan into action.
She brings to the team nearly 20 years experience, from her beginnings in radio journalism to her significant time in communications, community relations and event management, for which she has won accolades from the Public Relations Institute of NZ.
She has worked for a PR consultancy, a major electricity generator and retailer and managed the communications for Recover Canterbury, a post-quake business recovery organisation, before heading into business management.
She loves using communications strategies to bring people and communities together and is a huge believer in utilising grassroots engagement strategies to achieve big results.
